A MIGHTY Joe Calzaghe left-hander proved a knockout success at a boxing night in Moray.
Elgin Amateur Boxing Club raised money for their coffers by auctioning off a glove and photo signed by the former world light heavyweight champion, who retired undefeated after winning all 46 fights in his career.
The Welsh warrior’s personal donation to the club was the star attraction at their annual boxing show in the Elgin City Social Club.
Eleven fights, including a string of successes for home boxers, wowed a crowd of more than 180 who packed the Borough Briggs venue.
Club committee member Jason Grant hailed the show a big success, saying he received a great deal of positive feedback from those who attended.
“It was a sell-out, and many said they can’t wait to come back next year,” he said.
The show is the club’s only major fundraising event of the year, and an auction of Aberdeen and Rangers footballs helped to make it a profitable night.
Unanimous verdicts from the judges awarded wins to Elgin fighters Josh Dunlop and Aiden Stephen over their respective opponents Ross Young (Peterhead) and Danny MacIntosh (Nether Lochaber).
Daniel McLaren added to the home successes, defeating Jamie Banks (Nether Lochaber) when the referee stopped the bout in the first round. A majority verdict clinched victory for team-mate John Nicol against Cameron McKay (Highland).
