MORAY duo Andrew Barker and Mike Stepney have been knocked out of the World Bowls pairs championship.
But Stepney will return to the Norfolk rink on Monday to roll out his challenge in the men’s singles competition.
The Burghead pair, who represent Elgin on the national circuit, lost by two sets to nil to English rivals Greg Harlow and Nicky Brett on Saturday.
Harlow and Brett dominated the opening set and recorded a convincing 13-1 win, before edging a much closer second set 8-6.
The pair have since progressed all the way to the final, defeating Mervyn King and David Gorlay in round 2 and sweeping aside Jonathan Ross and Robert Weale in the semi-finals, both times without dropping a set.
In the final on Monday they will meet Scottish pair Alex Marshall and Paul Foster, who beat Stepney and Barker in the 2011 final in the Moray pair’s only previous appearance in the competition.
On that same day, Stepney will keep the Moray flag flying when takes on Welshman Weale in the singles.
