A FORMER Moray rugby star is preparing to take on a sporting battle of Britain.
Lee Millar, from Elgin, will feature for Gala RFC in their British and Irish Cup match against London Scottish at Netherdale.
The ex-Elgin High pupil has come through the ranks at Gala, and on Saturday he will face up to former Scotland stand-off Phil Godman in the big cup clash.
Gala have also been grouped with Llanelli and Moseley as one of four Scottish clubs competing in the tournament for the first time.
Millar (21), who plays stand-off, centre and full back for his club, is a product of the Borders College BASE rugby programme, which includes current Scotland rising star Stuart Hogg among its former students.
He started his career as a schoolboy star with his local Moray RFC before moving to Gala, where he now works with a local car firm.
Meanwhile, more young Moray rugby stars will be in action on Friday in the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools’ competitions.
Gordonstoun host Banchory Academy in the under-18 Plate semi-final, while the under-18 Bowl semis see Morayshire schools host Inverurie Academy, and Elgin schools visit Westhill Academy. All kick-offs are at noon.
See Friday's Northern Scot for rugby reports and pictures.
