A WHIRLWIND is coming to Buckie, as snooker legend Jimmy White is set to blow the roof off the town’s Grand Central Sports Bar.
But there will be a change of sport for the baize master when he takes part in a pool exhibition at the Moray venue on Saturday, August 16..
White (52), known as ‘The Whirlwind’ for his fast paced talents on a snooker table, will take part in a trick shot masterclass as well as answering questions from the public.
The sporting hero, who played in six World Championship finals at the Crucible, will also play frames of pool with qualifiers, raffle winners and special invitees of the Buckie bar.
The event, sponsored by Moravian Motors, opens at 1pm and White’s Q&A session will be hosted by STV sports correspondent Tyrone Smith.
Tickets for the event are priced at £30 for general admission or £60 for VIP including priority seating and a meet-and-greet with the player.
Grand Central owner J. Wayne Cameron said: “The visit of The Whirlwind to Buckie is in itself an occasion and tickets are selling quickly.”
He added that former Buckie pool league Secretary Laura Duncan has agreed to referee the event, ensuring the snooker legend conforms to local pool rules, and local piper Toby Geddes is to perform ‘Flower of Scotland’ on the day.
“There will be a signed cue getting raffled off on the day as well. But the main event is what Jimmy does on the table and we don’t want to distract from that too much.
The bar has applied for a special licence for the day allowing under 18s entry – accompanied by an adult – meaning the event can be enjoyed by all ages.
