MORAY returned to winning ways in their latest RBS Caledonia Regional League Division 2 North fixture when they convincingly defeated Aberdeen Wanderers 45-17 at Morriston.
Aberdeen started the better and for the first 10 minutes put Moray under a considerable amount of pressure in their 22 and trailed 0-3 to a penalty.
In this opening spell, the Elgin side lost prop Jason Ogg (broken nose) and centre Declan Fives (leg injury).
Moray replied, somewhat against the run of play and in their first real attack. Replacement centre Ryan Anderson took the ball at pace and drifted past four defenders to score under the posts. Full back Andrew McBean add the conversion for a 7-3 lead.
Elgin side stretched their lead on the half hour when stand-off Craig Forster found a gap to score. McBean converted to make it 14-3 at half-time.
Second row Steven Clark barged over the line for the score. McBean landed the additional points for a 21-3 lead.
Anderson scored his second try of the afternoon and the bonus point winning try.
Captain Marc Higgins crossed the line for a fifth try. McBean was very unlucky with his difficult conversion attempt as it rebounded back from the post, leaving the score 33-3.
Aled Herbert added try number six, again converted by McBean and Moray’s final points of the afternoon came in the 77th minute when ball from a solid scrum on the opposing 22 was moved through hands to wing John Hester and he beat his opposite man to score. McBean’s conversion attempt narrowly missed, leaving the score 45-10.
In the final play of the afternoon, Wanderers scored a second converted try under the posts.
This was a win full of character against the team currently sitting at the top of the league. Moray still have two games in hand.
