A Long Way Down

Release: Friday March 21

Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Aaron Paul

Synopsis: Four complete strangers form an unlikely bond when they meet by chance at a suicide hotspot named ‘Topper’s Tower’ in London on New Year’s Eve. Consisting of a shamed TV presenter, a rebellious teen, a struggling musician and a lonely mother, the motley crew make a pact to put off their plans until Valentine’s Day, whilst they search for reasons to go on living. When the media catches wind of their story, the public develops an insatiable appetite for the four, eager to see how their lives unfold.

Why You Should See It: Nick Hornby adaptations to cinema are always entertaining, at the very least, and sometimes utterly brilliant. “About A Boy” is probably the best use of Hugh Grant in a film, by making him a preening arrogant twit instead of the usual bumbling viscount role he's usually forced into. “Fever Pitch”, as well, is a brilliant look at the fanatical aspects of football.

This then should be something very good – yet something very dark. However, if About A Boy taught us anything, it's that Hornby is excellent at seamlessly working the darker and lighter tones together. A stellar cast rounds this off as a must-see.
