Thrillseekers Adventure Film Festival 2013 for eights and over is back on Thursday at Eden Court Cinema for its second of three nights of action and adventure film programming featuring five films.
Into The Wilderness (15mins) sees Frank Dias retracing the final journey of Into The Wild subject Christopher McCandless who lost his life in the Alaskan wilderness. Frank sets out to hike the strenuous Stampede Trail in Christopher’s footsteps, seeking to explore his own version of McCandless’ story and discover the meaning of adventure.
In 2013, Nissan granted one person the chance to live out their ultimate adventure. That person was Frank whose entry into the Nissan Juke Built to Thrill competition led him to Alaska in search of Bus 142, home and final resting place of Christopher McCandless.
From a normal life in London to the vast outdoors of Alaska, Frank was faced with no easy hike, crossing two large rivers, walking for miles over uneven terrain and battling with plagues of mosquitos, all the while being filmed by adventure cameraman, Paul “Mungo” Mungeam.
Nevertheless, the poignant arrival at the bus reminds Frank that his real triumph is in sharing this adventure, echoing McCandless’s words: “Happiness is only real when shared”.
In Moonwalk (4 mins) free climber Dean Potter highlines in Yosemite ie walks a tightrope in spectacular scenery.
Karakoram Highway (40 mins) finds three paragliding pilots in North Pakistan trying to break records for longest distance and highest altitude flights, starting in North Pakistan.
