THE 2013 classical music programme at the Town House opens on Thursday 17th January at 1pm, when Inverness Chamber Music’s afternoon counterpart, At One With Music, hosts a lunchtime concert by the Romanian pianist Peter Ciobanu.

Many Inverness music lovers will remember Ciobanu’s concert in the Town House last April as winner of the 2011 Moray Piano Competition. He returns by popular demand to perform a 50 minute recital featuring the Chopin Sonata in B flat minor, a Novelette by Poulenc and a selection of short pieces by Romanian composers.

There is no pre-booking for this concert. Doors will open at 12.30pm and admission will cost £5 for adults and £1 for children.

Then next week cellist Rowena Calvert will be returning to Inverness with her partners in the Cavaleri String Quartet on Wednesday 23rd January to perform a concert sponsored by Hawco Volkswagen for Inverness Chamber Music at 8pm in the Town House.

Calvert is now based in London following a very busy career not just with Anna Harpham, Ann Bielby and Ciaran McCabe in the Cavaleri String Quartet, but also as a soloist and with other ensembles such as the renowned John Wilson Orchestra.

Over the past two years the Quartet has enjoyed considerable success and a growing reputation with concerts in important venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and King’s Place in London as well as the Rachmaninov Hall in Moscow and the Teatro Monumental in Madrid.

The Quartet has won major prizes in several international competitions including the Royal Over-seas League Competition, the Premio Paulo Borciani Competition in Italy and most recently the Hamburg International String Quartet Competition.

The Cavaleri Quartet will be playing Mozart’s "String Quartet No 15 in D minor", the beautiful Second Quartet by Leos Janacek known by its title "Intimate Letters" and, after the interval, Beethoven’s String Quartet No 10 in E flat major, op.74 "Harp".

Tickets are available now at Eden Court box office or they can be reserved online at www.invernesschambermusic.com.

Any unsold tickets will be available on the night at the door from 7.30pm.
