The four-piece alternative indie folk post rock outfit are from Dunfermline and feature Jonny Watt - Vocals/ Guitar, Paul Devine - Guitars/ Bass, Lewis Hamilton - Race car driver/ Guitars/ Keys/ Glockenspiel and Nick Hernandez - bongos. Scottish blogger Pop Cop said of their song Yoghurt (there's a clip below): "Yoghurt, still knocks you sideways. The raw, stomach-knotting emotion of Jonny Watt’s struggle to come to terms with his father’s cancer diagnosis is unravelled in lyrics of a candour rarely heard ...
1 How many times have you been to Belladrum (if you have)? Do you remember your first performance? What’s your over-riding memory of it?
Jonny: We have never been to Belladrum before, so we’re really excited to find out what it’s like! We’ve only ever heard great things. Our first performance was during a mini festival our friends help to organise named The Spring Jam in a beautiful little village in Fife called Culross. It was a wild atmosphere as everyone had been drinking and partying all day before it, so by the time we went on, the crowd was really receptive! The over-riding memory must have been from looking up from my microphone at one point to see people literally hanging (upside down) from the rafters.
2 Name your three fave festival acts seen and why it was so good?
Jonny: Like I said before, we’ve never been, however, three acts that I have seen previously who will be playing this year are:
Tom Jones @ T in the Park: I sang my lungs out along to What’s New Pussycat? and Sex Bomb. Sterling performance from the big man.
Frightened Rabbit @ Glasgow Barrowlands: Seeing Frabbit is a bit like a religious experience, and not the boring kind when you get forced to go to church as a kid, but the divinity brought forth from the beautifully-written songs, the crowd empathy and of course, frontman Scott’s hilarious patter.
Ella And The Bird (Siobhan Wilson): This is my top tip for going to see new artists at Bella (except for ourselves of course!). Siobhan writes beautifully-perfect songs and gives a beautifully-perfect vulnerable perfomance. Just go, it’s worth it!
Foreignfox play the Seedlings Stage at Belladrum on Friday.
