The Eagle Bar's Highland Battle Of The Bands starts tonight (Friday) in Inverness.
Set to run throughout January, the competition's prize for the winning act is a package with the chance to record a single at Gargleblast Studios in Hamilton with established producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, The Fratellis) plus a professional music video to be filmed by Charlie Wilson.
The competition will be judged by a pool of local tastemakers and musicians over the five-week period of the contest.
Stuart Thain, the promoter who has helped mastermind the events, said: "I'm really excited about our first night - and all the nights coming up through the month.
"All the acts have what it takes to progress, so it should be an exciting battle!"
Tonight the three bands playing are two Inverness bands - The Stellars and Seed of Sorrow - with Gales blowing in from Wick.
Tomorrow (Saturday) you can see Inverness band Bring Back VHS, Kinlochleven five-piece The Shine and another five-piece - this time from Fort William - Great White Elephant.
The first act each night hits the stage at 9.30pm.
