AN album released on Highland record label Middle Of Nowhere Recordings is among the 20 featured on the longlist for Scottish Album Of The Year.

Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire's self-titled debut was released back in September and alongside good reviews, it saw the band invited to perform on American TV chat-show The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. The show's producers liked the band so much, they invited them to stay for a week-long residency.

Middle of Nowhere Recordings is a small label born originally set up in the HIghlands to release material by Carrbridge singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni.

But demand from other artists has led to a roster that includes includes Rachel, Pete Roe, Colin Macleod, Mo Kenney, as well as Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire.

The Roddy Hart album is one of 20 featured in the longlist for the coveted Scottish Album Of The Year title.

Robert Hicks of MONRecordings said: "We are absolutely over the moon and elated when you see the other people on the longlist - and those who haven't made it too.

"I think it is great for the album - it will give it another lift - as it did when the band appeared on the Craig Ferguson show in America.

"For the label, it's a coming of age. We've only put out three albums so far and have signed just seven artists, so it's really great for the gang working on the label. It's a thumbs-up collectively that we're doing something right!

"And Roddy is thrilled with the news and is very proud. The album is a departure from what he has done in the past, so it's great to be included on the list."

Edwyn Collins - who has a home in Helmsdale - has been longlisted.

Also making it through to the longlist is Edwyn Collins' U...nderstated. The singer, songwriter, producer and former Orange Juice mainman spends part of each year at his family home in Helmsdale in Sutherland.

Music fans will get their chance to vote for their favourite after a four-week promotion of the longlist which, from Monday, lets people stream one of the 20 longlisted titles each weekday until the promotion ends with a 72-hour public vote starting on Monday, May 26.

The album with the most public votes will secure an automatic place on The SAY Award Shortlist of 10 with the other nine titles being chosen by an independent panel of judges.
