AFTER The Oxides talked to us on the brink of the final Ironworks Showcase gig, the Inverness band had to cancel at the last minute.
It was ironic, because their third showcase gig there in 18 months had seemed to be the icing on the cake after a packed spring and summer of gigging around the Highlands – and beyond, to Liverpool.
The good news for fans is that the band have now come up with two imminent dates in the area - at the Market Bar, Inverness next Friday (Sept 20) and at The Mosset Tavern, Forres, with Fatherson and Be Like Pablo the following night.
But the process of going through their diary for singer and guitarist Jake Bolt and guitarist Paul Elliott – PEL – inspired them to share their backstage and on tour pictures once they'd deleted the odd Instagram snap that should have stayed in the tour van!
And showing them triggered more tales like going out for aftershow drinks with ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead and new band Parlour Flames.

Jake said: "We would never have hassled Bonehead about Oasis, but they came out afterwards and we got talking about Stone Roses – Bonehead is a massive Roses fan and then he just started talking about Oasis. He showed me his phone and scrolled down through his contacts and there were both the Gallaghers’ names."
Other good times came when fellow Inverness band The Whiskys played Twa Tams with the Oxides.
"It was a belter of a gig," recalled Jake. "It’s always ever only going to be mental with the Whiskys!"
But there’s only one gig that left scare – the Elphin Festival in July.
Jake laughed: "It was a great little festival and we went down really well with the locals.
"But we had a big fight on our hands with the midges – they had armour on!
"I’ve still got a scar on the back of my neck from a bite from that night."
Jake laughed: "Once we start looking at the pictures on our phones you start to remember all the hilarity we have on tour. The bulk of our tour photos are just ridiculous stuff.
"But if it wasn’t for the photos we probably wouldn’t remember half of it!"
The Oxides next shows are at the Market Bar, Inverness next Friday (Sept 20) and the next night at The Mosset Tavern, Forres, with Fatherson and Be Like Pablo.
