POP’S original nutty boys, Madness, will be joining a newer generation of music stars at RockNess this June.

Joining the ska-loving Londoners in taking "One Step Beyond" their usual festival haunts will be dance duo Basement Jaxx and Example (aka Elliott Gleave), whose full band appearance at RockNess might ease the disappointment of his north fans after he announced the cancellation of this month’s scheduled Aberdeen show.

Helping cater for rock fans at this year’s RockNess, which runs from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June at Dores, will be The Vaccines and previous visitors the NME Award-winning Bombay Bicycle Club and 2012 Mercury Prize nominees The Maccabees.

Example is also RockNess bound.

For an alternative to the rock and dance acts typical at RockNess, the festival has also announced a number of singer-songwriters, including Ellie Goulding, another Mercury nominee in Ben Howard, Jessie Ware and acoustic guitar wizard Newton Faulkner, making his RockNess debut two years on from his last Highland festival appearance at Belladrum.

Flying the flag for Scotland will be Glasgow indie band Camera Obscura with more announcements promised soon, including line ups for the Sub Club Sound System and Soma Records arenas, plus other headliners.

"We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring you an eclectic line up of the highest calibre acts for which RockNess is synonymous," festival director Jim King said.

"If you haven’t joined us at RockNess before, I promise you it is the best way to kickstart your summer, a completely electric atmosphere, partying in what is probably the most beautiful festival site in the world.

"If you have been to RockNess before then as always I’d like to thank you for your continued support in making it the best festival in Scotland. We’ve got many more bands and DJ’s still to announce, plus another very special headliner, so stay tuned!"

The first tickets for this year’s festival, including a limited number of £99 tickets for the three day event, went on sale earlier this week.

The festival also announced it was reducing the weekend camping tickets by £20 and has introduced a new Inverness discount ticket, which is inclusive of all fees if bought over the counter at Inverness agents The Ironworks and Caffery’s menswear.
