LEGENDARY jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine MBE is teaming up with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO) to present a homage to iconic composer John Coltrane at Aberdeen Music Hall on Friday, March 28.
Under the direction of Tommy Smith, Pine, who has been at the centre of UK jazz for 28 years as an award-winning composer and performer, will re-connect with some of Coltrane's best-loved and most inspirational pieces.
The programme offers specially commissioned arrangements of Coltrane's music, exploring the lust for life exemplified in Afro Blue, the tenderness of Naima and the soulful searching of Giant Steps.
And the deep and enduring spirituality of Coltrane's music will be represented by a live performance of A Love Supreme, 50 years after the four-part suite was first recorded.
Coltrane's star is as high as ever, and his soulful music has greater appeal across boundaries.
The versatility and audacity of the SNJO was recognised recently in rave reviews for their brand new CD American Adventure.
Tickets for the concert are available now online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com or by calling 01224 641122.
