Edinburgh-based funk/soul eight-piece The Foo Birds will take to the stage at Inverness' Mad Hatters on Saturday, followed by Thurso’s Y-Not Bar and Grill on Sunday.

The gig in Caithness marks the furthest north the group – comprising vocalist Kate, Charlie on bass, drummer Joe, guitarist Dan, Alex on keys, Ed on trumpet, Kirsty and Jess, both sax – have ever played.

How would you describe your style of music?

Groovin’, soul-filled jazzy pop!

What can audiences expect from your set?

Original, catchy music for the brain and booty! It’s pretty high energy but with plenty of chilled numbers too.

What’s the most memorable gig you’ve played at?

Best gig – Kelburn Garden Party, a beautiful wee festival on the west cost. Worst gig – playing to the drummer’s parents and the bar lady in a pub next to an industrial estate in Leicester.

Have you ever had anything strange thrown at you on stage?

Err...I suppose that’s a question for Kate...I’m pretty sure she’s had the knickers...probably from a guy.

What’s the first music you remember buying?

Hanson...“MMMBop!”

Who was your music idol growing up?

That’s a hard one...Marvin Gaye?

When you’re on the road, is there anything you can’t live without?

A shower! After a sweaty night, you just need to feel a bit fresh! Don’t worry, we’ll wash before the gig.

What has been your biggest musical success so far?

I think we’re most proud of our album; it might not be number one on iTunes but it really shows the best in us. In five years’ time...world tour, Jools Holland’s Hootenanny?

If you weren’t in a band, what would you be doing?

Well, unfortunately, most of us do have other jobs to pay the bills but I wouldn’t mind sacking it all off one day and becoming a farmer...somewhere warm!
