BUDDING stage stars will have to forgo their long lie if they want to be a part of Sleeping Beauty, this year’s Eden Court Christmas pantomime.
The theatre and panto producer Imagine Theatre are on the hunt for youngsters to join the cast as panto babes.
Children between the ages of nine and 16 are invited to tread the boards and show off their fancy footwork at the open audition at Eden Court Theatre on Sunday 25th August at 9.30am.
Those auditioning should wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable to dance in.
The audition will be in two parts.
In the morning, all children will be auditioned. Those who are successful in the morning will be asked to return for a recall in the afternoon.
Those children who are unsuccessful will be allowed to go home. Those then recalled for the afternoon auditions, will be kept until the final decisions on the pantomime casting are made later in the afternoon.
Those children chosen as panto babes and their parents/carers will be asked to stay after the audition sessions for a chat about licensing and panto guidelines
"Auditioning youngsters for the panto is always a lot of fun, but also a real challenge as we see so much talent," Imagine Theatre producer Steve Boden said.
"We are looking for children with the ‘x-factor’ — that something special that makes them stand out from the crowd.
"They need to be bubbly, confident and great dancers who are prepared to work hard as well as having lots of fun."
The successful youngsters will join Greg Powie, who has been announced as panto dame for Sleeping Beauty, which runs at the Inverness theatre from Tuesday 3rd December 2013 to Sunday 5th January 2014.
Powrie, who plays Nanny Knot, last appeared in panto at Eden Court in 2011 as an Ugly Sister in Cinderella.
"It doesn’t seem like Christmas without putting on some outrageous costumes and elaborate make-up — all in the name of panto of course!" he said.
"Eden Court is a fabulous theatre with audiences that really love their Christmas pantomime and it is always a delight to perform there."
The dame and comedy sidekick pairing is completed by Arron Usher who will be playing Muddles the Jester. Currently working on projects for the Edinburgh Fringe, Usher is really excited to be appearing in his first Imagine Pantomime this season.
"I adore panto, and Sleeping Beauty is a wonderful show," he said.
"I last appeared in it at the Glasgow King’s Theatre in 2011 and I am really excited to be appearing in it again this Christmas for Imagine Theatre and the Eden Court — although I may have to brush up on my juggling skills!
Also appearing in this year’s Eden Court panto are Kirsty Maclaren as the good fairy Azuriel with Marj Hogarth as her wicked sister Carabosse.
Carabosse’s sidekick, Gob, is played by Ross Allan, with Lorayne McLucas returning to the Eden Court as the sleeping beauty, Princess Belle. Donning principal boy clothes will be English actress Julia Cave, and the cast is completed by James Bryce who plays the loveable King Bumble.
