IN true showbiz fashion, Inverness Opera Company's recent online hit has spawned a sequel.
The company’s flashmob footage, filmed in the city centre’s O2 shop quickly notched up more than 3000 views on YouTube as people logged on to watch a dozen singers from forthcoming show Day and Night surprise customers by suddenly bursting into song.
Now the company looks to be on target for another YouTube success with a second online promo for the show, following Day and Night director Caroline Nicol through a day when even the simplest tasks like going to the supermarket are interrupted by people suddenly breaking into song.
Even home does not seem to be safe from impromptu performances.
"We wanted to focus on the fun aspect of the show and the fact that people spontaneously burst into song at any given moment," Nicol explained.
"This is another example of how we are trying to find original ways to promote our show."
Within hours of going online, the two-and-a-half minute clip was already measuring views in the hundreds.
Joining Nicol in the video are her husband Trevor and fellow company members Amy Atkinson, Amanda Wink, Benedict Donnelly, Debbie McDonnell, Elizabeth Donnelly, Fiona Chapman, Pete McKie and Lesley MacLean and the video was filmed by Johnathan Stuart and Sofie MacLeod.
Day and Night is an original show written by the company, but contains over two dozen songs from such hit shows as Fiddler On The Roof, Grease, Avenue Q, Oliver! and Queen’s We Will Rock You.
• Day and Night runs at Eden Court Theatre from Wednesday 26th to Saturday 29th March. Tickets are on sale now via Eden Court box office.
