THE main A96 between Fochabers and Keith has been re-opened following a serious collision earlier today.

The two male drivers were trapped following the crash just after 7.30am.

Firefighters and paramedics were at the scene.

A medical helicopter was also called to the scene.

Both drivers had to be cut free from their vehicles.

One of the drivers was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary via air ambulance, while the other was taken to Dr Grays in Elgin, via road ambulance.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The incident took place near the Newton of Forgie approximately 1 mile north of the junction with the B9016.

The A96 was closed for three hours and local diversions were in place.
