The condition of the former Haldanes business in East Cathcart Street had hampered fire investigators immediately after the blaze on Wednesday of last week.

At the height of the blaze, which started just before 7am, 55 firefighters from throughout the Moray area and Aberdeen tackled the fire.

Inspector Derek Spark, head of the Buckie policing team, said: "We are still waiting for the final report, and have not established a cause as yet.

"The building was pretty unsafe, and that held things up. It has been fenced off now to prevent anybody getting into the building."
