A MORAY secondary school is closed after being hit by flooding.

Forres Academy has been closed as a result of a burst pipe.

Part of the ground floor suffered water damage after a compression joint failed in a water pipe on the first floor.

A number of ceiling tiles were damaged and floor coverings in the main reception area, canteen and technical and maths departments were also damaged.

The damage was discovered by cleaners when they arrived at the school at 4.30am.

The water pipe has been repaired and the school will reopen as normal on Tuesday.

It is hoped that events scheduled to take place in the school this evening will be able to go ahead as planned.

It meant pupils had an unexpected day off from school today.

Driving rain and strong winds caused problems throughout Sunday across the Moray area.

Standing water on the roads made driving conditions extremely difficult.

At this stage there are no other reports of flooding problems across the district.
