WE’RE not spinning a yarn – a Forres schoolteacher has got a national embroidery award all stitched up.

Applegrove primary teacher Diane McGregor’s impressive 3D felt design won over the judges at a competition run by the Scottish Embroiders’ Guild.

Her eye-catching ‘Down to Earth’ themed creation, which she took two months to painstakingly craft on to a log base, was voted as one of the top three exhibits in the contest.

Mrs McGregor, a member of the Moray Embroiderers’ Guild for the past 15 years, said the award was recognition for her craft group.

"I was quite proud and surprised to get the award. Our group is one of the smallest in Scotland, so it’s a real achievement for them, rather than me," she said.

"What made it all the more pleasing was that it was voted for by the 400 embroiderers who were there."

Mrs McGregor’s winning design will be on display on Saturday (June 4) at an open day being held by Moray Embroiderers’ Guild in Elgin’s St Giles Church.

It is the headline attraction at the group’s exhibition table, while there will textile and craft items for sale, demonstrations in embroidery and textile techniques, stalls and refreshments.

The event is being held from 10am until 12.30 and 1.30-4pm.
