BUSES have been flying out of a Moray garage. Rather than hitting the road, however, these special buses will never clock up any miles and will remain in pristine condition in their presentation boxes.

Family firm, Maynes Coaches in Buckie, has been on the road since 1947 and the distinctive blue, white and gold livery of its fleet can be seen throughout the UK and into Europe. Now classic model makers Corgi have turned one of its Van Hool T9 Volvo coaches into a 1:76 scale version which has been snapped up by collectors. Only 1,010 of the cold cast models, which come complete with the scenery of a bridge and snow-covered hills, have been produced to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Maynes Coaches and almost all have already been sold, said managing director Kevin Mayne. "We approached Corgi and asked if they would produce a model for us to mark our 60th anniversary but they said they wanted to do this. The model is a perfect replica of a 2006 coach from our fleet, which was first seen at the UK Coach Rally in Brighton, winning the top Scottish coach, and it looks really good with the bridge scene. "It has been really popular with collectors and dealers, and we've heard that some are already appearing on Ebay. We have a number to sell at £59.99 and have some ourselves to mark a special part of our company's history."
The business was started by James Mayne with a second-hand Bedford OB coach, a version of which Maynes still owns. During the 1950s and 60s, the company grew steadily, operating services for fishermen between Buckie and ports on the West coast. His family continued to build up the business, now based in March Road. Today Maynes operate around 30 coaches on private hire and extended tours throughout the UK and Europe. More details on the availability of the Corgi model are available by contacting Maynes on 01542 831219. |
