A BREATH of whisky will be lingering in the air as an audience is invited to have an input into the development of a new musical from a Moray-based company.

The show, 'Whisky Kisses’, was runner-up in the Highland Quest for a new musical, an international competition backed by Eden Court Theatre in Inverness last year.

So enthusiastic was the response to the show from judges, critics and audience alike that Moray company Right Lines has been actively pursuing ways to develop 'Whisky Kisses’ into the first full-scale musical production from the Highlands, said Euan Martin, who lives in Alves.

Eden Court is still involved with the project, along with James Brining, director at the Dundee Rep, and freelance musical director Hilary Brooks.

Mr Martin explained: “Thanks to funding from Highland 2007 Moray, new material has been written and the company is now preparing for a presentation of 'Whisky Kisses – A Musical in the Making’ at the DNA Festival at the Ironworks in Inverness at 2.30pm on October 18.

“We will have four actors – Ron Emslie, Alyth McCormack, Barrie Hunter and Pamela Byrne – plus James Brining and Hilary Brooks, all of whom were involved in the Highland Quest final in Ullapool in July, 2006.

“The aim is to have a rehearsed reading of excerpts of the show and try out some new material. We also want to give a flavour of the history of 'Whisky Kisses’’ progress in Highland Quest and invite discussion with the audience on the future development of the project at the end of the presentation.”

The DNA Festival – Drŕma Na h-Alba – features indigenous work made at both professional and community levels, together with international collaborations. The programme of performance, tuition and discussion events in venues around the Highland capital reflects the diversity of theatre development in the area, led by the Highlands and Islands Theatre Network.
