Cabrach Primary has been in the headlines recently over the decision by the Scottish Government to keep the two-pupil school open, overturning a move by Moray Council to close it. This photo, sent in by Mrs Edith Stewart (née Sheed), of Garmouth Road, Lhanbryde, shows the school, then known as the Lower Cabrach School, in 1933 when it had a booming school roll. Edith, who had six sisters and three brothers, had to walk two miles to school each day. In bad wintry days Edith, her sister Betty and brothers Gordon and Sandy were met at the school at the end of the day by older brother Jake with a horse and sledge and given a ride home. At break time the children got hot cocoa and a piece from home, quite often a pancake and jam. There were no school dinners. The classroom was heated by one small stove. The children are pictured with teacher Miss Nan Duff (left) and head teacher Mr Thomas Talbot. Back row (from left): K. McHardy, ?, G. Keir, G. Stephen, D. Ross, J. Sheed, R. Stephen. Third row: M. Talbot, M. McConnachie, A. Law, M. Sheed, B. Sheed, E. Taylor, E. Sheed, I. Rattray, M. Stephen. Second row: K. Stephen, A. Law, S. Sheed, J. Mackie, H. Taylor, A. Davidson, P. Sheed, J. Campbell.
