Tracy More was planning a support group for cardiomyopathy sufferers in the North-east of Scotland, but died before the first meeting was held.

Her parents, John and Margaret Herriott from Buckie, vowed to continue with the project and attended the first meeting held at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin on Sunday.

John said: "We have made a start and all Tracy's family and friends wish to see this small acorn grow throughout the North-east and possibly further north."

Tracy (39) died last September, six years after being diagnosed with the disease.

She spent much of her life in Hopeman and Burghead before she married and went to live near Glasgow.

The mother-of-two moved to Kintore with her own family shortly before she contracted the virus which resulted in her developing the disease.

She was treated with a pacemaker and medication and lived life to the full with daughters Olivia and Bethany.

It was when she began going to meetings of the Cardiomyopathy Association in Glasgow that she met other sufferers from the North-east and realised there was a need for a support group closer to home.

The new group has the backing of the Cardiomyopathy Association, a charity that provides information and support to affected families.

Chief executive, Robert Hall, gave a talk at Sunday's meeting, which was attended by over 20 people.

Further meetings of the North-east Scotland Cardiomyopathy Support Group will be held at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on August 31 and Huntly's Jubilee Hospital on November 30.

Anyone wanting to support group should contact Bob McConnachie on 07710 789581 or the Cardiomyopathy Association on freephone 0800 0181 024, email info@cardiomyopathy.org or visit the website www.cardiomyopathy.org
