A CAMPAIGN has been launched by Moray Council to recruit home carers in the Forres area.

The council currently employs over 350 home carers throughout Moray but is looking to recruit a further 100 in the year ahead. There is a particular shortage in the Forres area where 35 home carers are currently providing 1,000 hours of care every week between them. Home care manager Jacqui Short will be at the Jobcentre in Forres on Thursday, May 8 as part of the recruitment drive and will be available to talk to prospective recruits. "We are especially keen to recruit new home carers in the Forres area," said Mrs Short. "There are constant requests coming in from care officers asking us to provide care to new service users and we are finding it difficult to meet the level of demand. "Home carers work as part of a team, visiting people in their homes and providing a range of care tasks that enable our most vulnerable people to remain in their own homes. "This requires sensitive, caring, committed and dependable people who are highly trained." Moray Council provides all new carers with three weeks' initial training and ongoing training is provided as required. There is also the possibility of achieving formal work-based qualifications through the Home Care Practice Licence and SVQ system. Career prospects are excellent, with the potential to advance to team leader and care organiser. The council offers very attractive terms and conditions, including an hourly rate of £7.59, with an enhanced rate of £10.13 after 8pm and all weekend. Paid holiday entitlement is 27 days per year plus seven public holidays. Anyone interested in becoming a home carer should call Jacqui Short on 01343 567112 or make contact with her at the Jobcentre in Forres on Thursday. |
