This year is the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Inverness to Aberdeen railway line, and Moray's place on the link was celebrated with a day of events at the weekend.

It included the visit by Mr Stevenson and railway officials, and the plaque acknowledges the completion of the final section of the line between Keith and Nairn in 1858, which finally allowed the Highlands to be joined by rail with the rest of Scotland and the south.

Community groups and individuals have been busy over the past few months decorating cardboard boxes in an attempt to set a new world record for the longest train made out of shoe boxes.

The box train is on show at the old Elgin Station, now the Elgin Business Centre.

An exhibition on the railway line is being staged in Elgin Museum until the end of August.
