Sir, – I am up here on holiday, staying with my brother and sister-in-law at Lossiemouth.

I am an animal lover, both domestic and wild creatures, and I was both saddened and horrified that snares could be left so indiscriminately in woodland. Why do people want to do this anyway? What happens to the poor wild creatures like foxes, rabbits, possibly badgers and birds etc? Why catch them in a running snare so it doesn't injure or kill them, just to remove an animal that will be petrified and stressed, and then what? Kill it, I presume. Why? Wild animals do not have people to help them out, like the little Jack Russell dog, Spike ("Northern Scot", November 14). They must suffer alone. Foxes and other creatures deserve a home too. The woods and places like them are where these creatures should be. So what cruel person decides whether they should live or die in their own habitat? They are doing no harm to anyone. People do far more damage and hurt to each other, the environment and other creatures who share our world, far more so than any wild, little creature could do to us. Remove the snares. It's barbaric, needless and cruel. Live and let live – or is this too much to ask? If I lived there, I would take wire cutters with me and remove them myself – cruel beggars. The wildlife officer should be fighting for the wildlife; that's supposedly his job. – Yours etc, P.C. Goater 101 Wych Lane, Bridgemary, Gosport, Hampshire |
