All 26 Moray Council members have been invited to the meeting on Monday, July 13 (7.30pm) at Glenifiddich Distillery.

The meeting has been organised by Save Our Scenic Moray (SOS Moray), which is opposed to plans by the Infinergy energy company to create a 59-turbine development at Dorenell on the Glenfiddich Estate.

Moray Council is a statutory consultee for the development, which will ultimately be determined by the Scottish Government. It is due to go before the council in August, when opponents will be unable to present their case in person.

That is why SOS Moray has invited councillors to this public meeting, said secretary Robert McHugh.

"It is a ludicrous state of affairs. The largest wind farm ever proposed in the north Scottish mainland; miles outside the council's own preferred area for wind farms and in a key area for walking and wildlife tourism, yet councillors cannot hear or question either proponent or opponent," he said.

Speakers will include Grant Gordon of the Wm Grant distilling family, which owns Glenfiddich. They and a number of other local distilleries are concerned at the possible impact on water courses which serve the whisky industry.

Another speaker will be world-famous ornithologist Roy Dennis, who will explain the importance of the Dorenell site to golden eagles.
