We still have no official date, and I am no more knowledgeable than anyone else - probably only a very few senior Labour people are aware of Gordon Brown's thinking on this. My own preference is for a standard parliamentary term - every four years with a fixed date so that everyone involved knows exactly where they stand. I am really honoured that I have been reselected as the SNP candidate for Moray by the local association, which was confirmed on Saturday night. I would very much welcome the opportunity to champion local concerns and priorities and to continue to provide a strong voice for Scotland at Westminster. Little support from banks MY recent contact with the main banks in regard to their treatment of small and not so small businesses has not yet reaped any dividends or even replies. Despite the rhetoric of the UK Government and the marketing arms of the banks, I continue to meet with local business that carry on despite extremely difficult trading conditions and with little or no support from banks. Whilst there is much talk of the recession being over, the wider ripples are still having significant impact on local businesses. Elgin firm at forefront TALKING of local businesses, I was delighted to be able to meet with a local business exhibiting in the world's biggest sustainable building exhibition in London. The Roof Truss Company, from Elgin, has been at the forefront of innovation regarding sustainable building, and their latest development took pride of place on their stand at ECOBUILD. This Elgin company is to be congratulated on its innovative approach to the future of building and its efforts to be at the forefront. |
