The RAF Kinloss navigator won the opening round of 'The Northern Scot' 10k Series in a blistering time of 31 minutes and 10 seconds, breaking his personal best by just one second.

He was more than three minutes clear of the field, with Frankie Barton (Keith and District) in second and Paul Rogan of Forres Harriers just a second further back in third after a tense battle for the line in the last few strides.

Inverness Harrier Melissa Whyte retained the ladies title she won in 2009 in a time of 35min 22sec, with Gemma Cormack of Moray Road Runners second in 37min 53sec and Jenny Bannerman (Inverness Harriers) third in 38min 37sec.
