MOURNERS attending the funeral of a Moray SNP stalwart have been asked to wear something tartan.

Long serving councillor Tom Howe died last month while on holiday.

Born and brought up in Aberdeenshire, Mr Howe moved to Moray in the 1960s working as fisheries manager for the Crown Estate, responsible for net fishing on the River Spey.

His first step into the political spotlight came when he stood in the 1970 General Election.

Well-known for his distinctive fashion sense, Mr Howe served as a councillor with Moray District Council then Moray Council before stepping down from his Lennox ward in 2003.

He is survived by wife Margo, daughter Gail, stepdaughter Fiona, stepson Rory and six grandchildren.

Mr Howe’s funeral will be held in St Rufus Church, Keith from 1pm on Friday, June 10.

Donations for the Chest, Heart and Stroke charity will be received at the church door.

The service will be followed by an internment at Bellie Cemetery, Spey Bay.
