THE Keith family of a North East oil worker are waiting on news after his wife was kidnapped in the Philippines.

Local police said 34-year-old Luisa Galvez was abducted by suspects who posed as customers in her salon in Barangay Poblacion, Ipil at about 7.20pm on Sunday.

She was taken away in a van that was later found abandoned, said regional police head Chief Superintendent Elpedio de Asis.

"Our police and military forces have been tracking down all the leads on this kidnapping case," de Asis said told reporters.

Galvez is married to Keith man Raymond Morrison (51), who works offshore in Malaysia.

It is not clear if the family received a ransom demand from the abductors.

A Crisis Management Committee has been formed to solve the case, according to Col. Santiago Baluyot, commander of the Army’s 102nd Brigade.

"Apparently, she was stalked. People were able to react but the incident happened so fast. Apparently, this was well-planned," Baluyot said.

Kidnappings for ransom, often targeting foreigners, are a common occurrence in the south of the country, where Muslim insurgents, extremists and armed gangs are active.

Pursuing troops recovered the burned getaway vehicles in Bangkerohan village, a coastal community in Ipil.

Mr Morrison's mother Alice, lives in Balloch Road, Keith and he also has a brother Ally in the town.
