Moray Council hosts volunteer event

AN EVENT will take place next week in recognition of the hundreds of people in Moray who devote their time to voluntary work.

Moray Council has joined forces with Volunteer Centre Moray to arrange the event, which will be held at Elgin Town Hall on Tuesday from 2-8pm as part of National Volunteer Week.

More than 30 organisations across Moray will be represented, with a range of activities and stands showcasing the broad spectrum of work undertaken locally.

The council itself has more than 600 people who do voluntary work across the local authority’s range of services, including libraries, museums, employability services and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Council convener Councillor George McIntyre will deliver a message of thanks of behalf of the council and will present special volunteer badges to those council volunteers who are able to attend.

He said: "Volunteers are invaluable to the council just as they are to the wider community. They go about their work in a quiet and unassuming way and they do not look for recognition for their efforts.

"However, it is important that the work they do is acknowledged and that is what National Volunteer Week is all about and that is why the council and the Volunteer Centre Moray have got together to stage this event."

Jenny Devlin, administrator for VCM, said: "We would love to see as many people as possible come through the doors and find out what is going on in their area and how they can get involved.

"Volunteering is so varied these days and there are so many different opportunities on offer. There is literally something for everyone."

More information on Tuesday’s event is available by emailing Volunteer Centre Moray at emailing info@volunteermoray.org.uk or calling 01343 843705.
