It is believed that Garry Geddes (21) had to have his arm amputated at Ninewells hospital in Dundee following the horror accident on Sunday night.

The Rangers football fan had been attending his team's match in Glasgow and has missed his bus home along with two other Moray-based supporters.

The three men caught a train north which stopped at Perth, where it is understood Mr Geddes got off to have a cigarette and slipped when the train began to move off while he was still on the platform.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police confirmed that a 21-year-old from Buckie was treated for a "severe arm injury" and was in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The police spokesperson said the youth appeared to have fallen from the platform on to the train at Perth station.

He said there was no suspicious circumstances, and a report was being sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Mr Geddes posted on his Facebook page at 6.23 on Sunday evening that he had missed his bus back to Buckie and was fearing missing a 7.30am start at work with a local window firm the following day.
