PEOPLE in Moray are being urged to hit the road next year by taking a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the Olympic torch.

While the exact route for the torch has yet to be finalised, the organising committee for the 2012 Games in London confirmed last week that both Aberdeen and Inverness will be included on the journey.

"The Scottish leg of the Olympic torch relay will showcase our country and the talent and dedication of individuals from across our communities," said Moray MP Angus Robertson.

"If you know someone who has shone in their life for any reason then think about nominating them to shine with the Olympic torch as it travels through Scotland!"

A 70-day celebration, the Olympic torch relay will start at Land’s End on May 19 before travelling hundreds of miles across the UK.

When the torch passes through Scotland next June, it is estimated that 95% of the population will be within one hour of seeing the flame for themselves.

The torch will ultimately be used to light the Olympic Flame, which will burn throughout the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Nominations for torch-carriers, which must be no longer than 150 words, must be submitted before the June 29 deadline.

Further information on the torch route is available at www.london2012/olympic-torch-relay, while nominations can be made by visiting www.bankofscotland.co.uk/carrytheflame
