POLICE are investigating after a fire was started near Buckie Shipyard on Sunday.

The blaze is being treated as a wilful fire by officers, who are calling for witnesses after the derelict building on Blantyre Terrace was torched.

A Grampian Fire and Rescue service spokeswoman said that a call came through at 5.42pm and three appliances from Buckie, Cullen and Fochabers attended.

They found the one-storey derelict wooden building, which measured 20 metres by 30 metres, already engulfed in smoke and flames.

Using two jets and breathing apparatus, they worked for more than an hour-and-a-half to extinguish the blaze.

A Grampian Police spokeswoman said investigations are continuing and officers are keen to hear from witnesses.

Anyone who may have information on the fire, or may have seen anything suspicious, is asked to phone Grampian Police on 0800 600 5700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
