A TEENAGE driver has been killed following a one vehicle crash on a Moray road.

Michael Fraser was driving a Vauxhall Corsa on the A95 at Keith just before 11pm on Saturday when the crash occurred.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene at Nethermills, Grange. Two passengers in the car were uninjured.

The three people in the car were understood to all be from the Buchan area.

The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators carried out a detailed examination of the scene.

Inspector Ewan Innes, who was at the scene, said: "Our enquiries are at a very early stage and it is too early to speculate as to the cause of the collision.

"Our thoughts go out to the family of those involved at this time."

It is believed the westbound silver Corsa may have travelled from the Cornhill area prior to the collision.

In a statement released through Grampian Police, his family said: "Michael was a young lad who recently celebrated his 18th birthday, and had his whole life ahead of him.

"He was enjoying his apprenticeship at Dales Engineering in Peterhead and also participated in local stockcar racing with friends.

"Michael had a funny, cheeky sense of humour who was much loved and will be greatly missed by parents Doug, Fiona and younger brother Cameron and our families."

Anyone who has any information relating to the collision can contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or the charity Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
