STAR striker Craig Gunn is set to stay at Elgin City, and the Borough Briggs side will confirm three new signings after they kick off pre-season training this weekend.

Assistant boss Barry Wilson revealed that all the players he and manager Ross Jack want to retain from last season – including goal ace Gunn – have agreed to pen a new deal.

Wilson also said the club are ready to bring in 6ft 3in St Johnstone youngster Zander Clark on loan as first choice keeper for next term, and expects two permanent transfers to be clinched by next week.

“We’ve spoken to St Johnstone about getting their third-choice keeper on a long-term loan, “ Wilson said. “Gordon Marshall (Saints’ goalkeeping coach) feels he’s ready now for some senior action.”

Clark is the player Wilson is referring to, a Glaswegian who turns 19 this month and has been on the books of both Celtic and Rangers during his career.

But manager Jack’s first two signings are expected to be striker Stuart Leslie and left-sider Daniel Moore.

Wilson would only say that he expects to bring in two new faces from Clachnacuddin and Peterhead, possibly by this weekend.

Wilson also dismissed speculation that top goalscorer Gunn was set to sign for Highland League Brora Rangers by saying the striker has agreed to stay with City for a third season.

City had already lost out to Brora in the chase for ex-Caley Thistle defender Stuart Golabek, but it seems likely Gunn will remain at Borough Briggs, where he has netted 36 goals in just two campaigns.

“Gunny has agreed. There was a bit of speculation but a lot of it was unfounded,” Wilson said. “He’ll be down here on Saturday for pre-season.

“The main guys in the squad we wanted to keep have all agreed to stay, so that’s good news and we’ll hopefully be getting some of them tied up over the weekend.”
