The Third Division outfit could be matched up against one of their old north adversaries when the draw is made at 11am.

Keith, Buckie Thistle and Forres Mechanics will also be among the 32 clubs bidding to take a step closer to Hampden.

City drew Highland League opponents in the past two seasons, beating Brora Rangers 5-3 last year and winning 4-2 at Nairn in 2009.

In 2006-07 the Borough Briggs club, then managed by Brian Irvine, edged out Buckie Thistle 1-0 before losing a memorable third round tie 5-4 at Deveronvale.

Like Elgin, Buckie received a bye from the first round of this year's competition as Highland League champions. They will be keen to embark on a similar run to the one they achieved last term, when they reached the last sixteen before losing to Brechin.

Keith will be looking for a home tie after enduring the long trip to the Borders in round 1, beating St Cuthbert Wanderers 2-0 on Saturday.

And Forres Mechanics must overcome Ayrshire juniors Irvine Meadow this weekend to secure their place in the next round after the teams drew 2-2 at Mosset Park on Saturday.

Clach, Cove Rangers, Deveronvale, Huntly, Inverurie Locos, Nairn and Wick Academy will also be representing the Highland League in round two, while Fort William have still to play their first round tie against Bo'ness.
