Moray Open reaches climax

GARY THOMSON of the host club led the qualifiers in the 106th Moray Open.

A second round 72 for an aggregate of one under par 140 gave him a one stroke advantage over Bryan Fotheringham (Inverness).

M. Tait from Fraserburgh fired a superb two under par 69 on the Old Course coming home in 34. Holder John Forbes (Inverness) qualified safely on 146.

During the qualifying rounds, Alex Mair (Moray) aced the 151-yard 11th on the New Course using a nine iron. He was partnered by clubmates William Stewart and John Meichan. The qualifying cut fell at 154 for the Scratch and 149 for the Handicap. Leading handicap aggregate score was 135 achieved by F. McPherson from Kemnay, playing off five for a 135 total.

The matchplay finals are scheduled to take place today (Friday).
