PORTGORDON Vics are expected to become Moray’s latest addition to the North junior football ranks this weekend.

The Moray Welfare champions applied to move up to junior status earlier this year, and their bid will be heard at the Scottish Junior FA AGM in Dundee on Saturday.

It is understood that Portgordon and Inverurie outfit Colony Park will be accepted into a nine-club North Division 2 next season.

New North Junior FA secretary Richard Easton confirmed that the Moray side’s application was one of two received by the league.

“Their ground has been inspected and it has been recommended that they be accepted into the league,” he said.

Vics only joined the Moray welfare set-up six years ago, but after clinching a succession of trophies, including the last two Premier Division titles, decided to go looking for a new challenge at a higher level.

Last year, under manager Graham Collie, they won all but one of the trophies available to them.

Should their bid be rubber-stamped this weekend, Vics will play against Fochabers, RAF Lossiemouth and relegated Bishopmill United, along with five other teams in Division 2 when the season kicks off in July.
