VICTORIA Park will host a testimonial match for long serving Buckie Thistle favourite Stephen Bruce to mark his sixteen years at the club.

Bruce (31) will lead out his team at his own benefit match against former Highland League rivals Elgin City on Sunday.

The striker- nicknamed 'Marra' at the club - debuted for Jags as a 15-year-old in 1995 and went on to make almost 400 appearances, and is still part of manager Gregg Carrol's first team squad.

Bruce won his first Highland League title with the club in 2010 and repeated the feat last season, as well as collecting a number of winners' medals in cup competitions over the years.

Testimonial committee member Murray Thain said: “If any Highland League player deserves a great turnout for a testimonial match Stephen Bruce does, if for no other reason than players who play for their home town club for 16 years are very few and far between in the modern game at any level.

“It’s been a great year for Marra after winning his second Highland League championship medal at the end of last season and I’m sure he’d like nothing better than to end his testimonial year with a win over Elgin – the club he wanted as the opponents for the game - on his big day."

Sunday's match against Division 3 Elgin kicks off at 2pm.
