THE refurbished Fochabers Institute continues to go from strength to strength as a venue for top quality folk music.
The line-up of acts for 2018 had just been announced, with tickets going on sale tomorrow online.
Amongst the acts coming to the village are Skerryvore, IMAR, Robyn Stapleton and the Adam Sutherland Band
In addition, Sharon Shannon is travelling from Ireland to play, while Calum Stewart, who was raised in Garmouth, is journeying from his home in France.
What’s more, local fiddle virtuoso James Alexander will be playing two concerts on October 19 and 20, alongside some of the very many fine musicians he has shared a stage with over the years.
Fochabers Institute, whose £800,000 makeover provided it with a bar and state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, was nominated as the best folk club in Scotland last year.
Ultimately, the 300-seat venue lost out to Edinburgh Folk Club which has been in existence for more than 50 years.
However, the very fact that Fochabers was nominated shows its rapid progress.
The upcoming concerts, which are known collectively as the Arc Sessions, have been organised by Mhairi Marwick who grew up in Fochabers.
She said: "We have some of the best folk musicians coming that you could ever hope to hear. It’s a wonderful excuse to come out and enjoy yourself.
"The Arc Sessions are in their third year now and it’s great to still see lots of enthusiasm and energy around the concerts with a growing audience every time.
"They would not be as successful without the great support from the regular concerts goers - this is much appreciated and is what keeps music alive."
