FOUR candidates will contest next month’s Elgin North by-election.
They are Patsy Gowans (Scottish National Party), Maria McLean (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Terry Monaghan (Independent) and Nick Taylor (Scottish Labour).
The ballot for the Moray Council ward, which will take place on Thursday, July 13, has been caused by the resignation of Sandy Cooper a few days after he was elected in May.
The by-election count will be held at Elgin Town Hall the following day and will be conducted manually rather than electronically.
The Elgin City North ward has an electorate of 9237.
Four polling places will be in operation – Bishopmill Hall, Seafield Primary School, Williamson Hall and the Elgin Community Church.
