AFTER striking up an online friendship with a Huntly man an award-winning American musician is making two surprise appearances at local venues this weekend.
Diego Garcia, who is currently in Europe on a holiday with his girlfriend, will be playing sets in Huntly tonight and Newmachar on Saturday.
Frontman with the indie band Stage 11, Diego was once described by New York magazine as America’s "sexiest lead singer".
His star has continued to rise since, especially after he won the Hollywood Music in Media Award for best male vocalist in 2016.
Craig Bowden, a fire training officer from Huntly, explained that he first came across Diego’s music by chance on the internet.
Craig said: "I saw a video of him performing an amazing cover version of a song which I like.
"From there I started listening to all the other things he’s done.
"I’m quite particular about the music I listen to and, in my view, he’s both an excellent singer and a great songwriter.
"He really knows how to craft a song."
"Anyway, I first got in contact with him, then I posted my own cover on YouTube of a Stage 11 song, which I think they were quite chuffed about."
Craig adds that the idea to come to the North-East was totally Diego’s.
He said: "I knew nothing about it. He arranged the gigs and booked himself into a local hotel then sent me a message afterwards.
"Apparently, seeing Edinburgh was one of the things on his bucket list and he decided to come up to the North-East as well.
"Unfortunately I can’t see him on Friday night but I’ll be meeting him for lunch the following day.
"As I said, I think he’s great. But don’t take my word for it – have a look on YouTube."
Diego Garcia will be playing at Huntly Golf Club on Friday and the Newmachar Hotel on Saturday between 7pm and 9pm.
