AN enquiry is underway after stray fireworks injured at least one person and frightened many more at Elgin’s official display.
Several fireworks landed amongst the crowd who had gathered in Cooper Park on Saturday night to watch the pyrotechnics.
Elgin Rotary Club, which organised the event, has issued a statement underlining the fact the fireworks were supplied and operated by a professional company, and that an investigation is now underway.
The statement said: "On the evening of Saturday, November 4, we co-ordinated the annual Guy Fawkes Night Firework Display in Cooper Park for the benefit of the community in Elgin and Moray.
"The fireworks were supplied by and the display was operated by a professional pyrotechnics company.
"The club is aware that an adverse incident occurred during the course of the display and is deeply concerned about the effect this may have had on spectators.
"The club in conjunction with the pyrotechnics company concerned has launched an immediate and full investigation into the matter.
"Whilst the club deeply regrets the incident, it would be inappropriate and unhelpful to make any further comment until that investigation has been concluded."
