Moray MP Douglas Ross and other Conservative MPs have met Prime Minister Theresa May in Downing Street to press for the best Brexit deal for the fishing industry.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Ross said: “It was useful to be able to sit down with the Prime Minister and express the views I am receiving from fishing communities in Moray.
“The meeting allowed us to press the case to support our fishermen.
“Our fishermen in Moray and across the UK want to be able enter the annual EU sea fisheries talks as an independent coastal state as soon as possible. We need to take back control for our fishermen.
“Fishing is a vital industry not just in Scotland, but for the whole of the UK. Coastal communities have suffered long enough under the CFP, and the sooner our fishing fleets can be free of the constraints of this EU policy, the better. It was important that I could put across Moray’s case on this issue directly with the Prime Minister."
A Fisheries Bill, which will detail the Government’s plans for the future of the industry, is expected to come before Parliament soon.
