Piping at Forres aims for rousing finale

Piping action at Forres Highland Games in Grant ParkSUPPORT is now being drummed up to make sure the final Piping at Forres finishes with a flourish.

Organisers are calling on crafters, food producers and charities to get on board to make sure things go out on a high on June 30.

Joanna Taylor is a director with Forres Events Limited, the team of volunteers who first brought the event, otherwise known as the European Pipe Band Championships, to Grant Park back in 2013.

She said: "We have already had people getting in touch asking to take a stall.

"We hope that demand will be bigger than ever before as this is the final Piping At Forres.

"It will be the sixth year the event has taken place in Forres and we have built up a reputation amongst our traders for our organisation as well as for providing them with a great venue."

Piping at Forres has been Moray’s biggest one-day attraction by far since 2013, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from both visitors and pipers who enjoy the picturesque surrounding of Grant Park.

Supported each year by its title sponsor Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, it has succeed in bringing both tourists and pipe bands from all over the world to the region.

Featuring top-rate piping from more than a hundred bands, it also includes Highland dancing and the World Tattie Scone Championships.

In addition, it hosts a food and drink village, a craft and retail village, several bars and family attractions such as funfairs.

There are places for over a hundred stalls at the event, with spaces available both inside and outside the marquees.

Joanna added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for local food, drink and craft producers to showcase their products to an audience that comes from across the globe."

Information is available at the Piping at Forres website.

Organisers are also keen to hear from any potential sponsors or volunteers.

As in past years, stalls will be given free of charge to six selected charities. Apply online.

As 2018 is the Year of Young People, Piping  At  Forres is particularly keen to hear from charities run by or involved with young people.
