Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival tickets launch

TICKETS go on sale next weekend for the 2014 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

It is an extra-special year for the event, which draws people from all over the world to join locals in a celebrationOF our famous local product.

For the Year of Homecoming, the festival has been handed a key role in launching a national Whisky Month promotion.

Spirit of Speyside chairman James Campbell said: “More than 300 events are taking place over five days so whisky aficionados and novices alike will find something to suit them.”

The festival will run from Thursday, May 1 to Monday, May 5, and tickets go on sale on Saturday, February 1, through the new-look website from 7pm.

Mr Campbell added: “Our partners have pulled out all the stops to create an outstanding programme of events, from tasting sessions and the world-class whisky school to canoe tours and ‘drambles’ between our famous distilleries.

“We are proud to have been chosen as the launch event for Whisky Month and it’s the perfect chance to raise a glass of our world famous malt whiskies.”

Speyside and Moray contains more than half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries and each one produces a whisky with its own distinguished set of characteristics. During the festival, a large number will open their doors for public tours, nosings and tastings – some for the very first time.

“The Speyside locals are always more than happy to offer a warm welcome to visiting tourists, and that is no different during the five days of the whisky festival,” said Mr Campbell.

“There is always such a vibrant atmosphere as thousands of visitors arrive and join locals in celebrating all things whisky – there’s no better way to encapsulate the true Spirit of Speyside and the essence of Homecoming.”

Whisky Month will celebrate Scotland’s diverse food and drink. “With a boom in tourism expected during the Year of Homecoming, it’s important that we take the opportunity to show the world what we have to offer,” said Scotland’s Food and Drink Secretary, Richard Lochhead, MSP for Moray.
